Box Hedge Plants – Buxus Sempervirens

Box Hedge Plants – Buxus sempervirens are Slow growing evergreen hedge plants that can be easily trimmed to create formal neat hedge or topiary. These properties make it an ideal hedge for patio borders or along avenues for bordering purposes.

It differs from other evergreen hedges such as Portuguese Laurel or Cherry Laurel in that it is very slow growing, with a growth rate of about 4-6 inches per year.

Portuguese Laurel Is another example of an evergreen hedge that can be used in borders or as topiary but it is faster growing than box hedging.

Buxus sempervirens can be trimmed in Spring months to create neat formal borders or topiary. It is often trimmed into square shapes or round balls in pots.

Box hedging of size 40 cms in height is usually planted 4 plants per metre to give a good thick hedge. These larger box hedging plants give an instant impact due to their thickness and bushiness.

Buxus sempervirens is suitable for all types of well drained soil. It is sold as bareroot plants for planting in the Winter months from November to March or can be planted from pots all year round.
