Description
Black Walnut Tree – Juglans nigra
Black Walnut trees are large spreading trees with a rounded canopy that makes them ideal trees. Best suited to a large garden they are fast growing. Their dark ridged bark is both attractive and durable making it a popular choice for timber growing trees.
Flowers appear in late May, into June and during Autumn these flowers turn to a green plum like fruit. The nut is held inside this fruit and the husk is hard to break. Nuts only appear on the tree following a good Summer and is therefore not reliable tree for nuts in our Irish climate.
Other nut producing plants include Hazel, both of which are grown here in our Native Nursery.
